MTA Driver of the Month

The Michigan Trucking Association (MTA) chose Holland driver Scott Richter as a MTA Driver of the Month award winner during its 2014 awards banquet.

His award was presented by Paul Soehnlein, MTA Chapter Chairman and Jill Skutar, MTA Director of Membership and Marketing in Lansing, MI.

Holland Honored with Awards in 2014

We were recently named the Carrier of the Year for 2013 by Unishippers Global Logistics. Holland was selected based on service quality and performance, loss and damage events, customer service, claims resolution and overall commitment to partnership.

"Sustained partnerships with such nationally renowned, outstanding carriers are a considerable contributing factor to Unishippers' ongoing success," said Kevin Lathrop, President of Unishippers. "This year's winners are such crucial pieces to the puzzle, and we're so appreciative of their collaboration that helped make 2013 our most successful year yet."

But that's just the first award Holland received in 2014.

We also received a Carrier of the Year award from BASF. "Holland has built one of the best teams in the industry," wrote Peter Belthoff, BASF Director, Logistics Solutions Procurement. "The dedication of Holland drivers, operations staff, sales and customer service groups is second to none. The level of consistency in professionalism and dedication as demonstrated by Holland has been evident throughout the past year. One of our four strategic pillars at BASF is innovating to make our customers more successful. Holland has demonstrated this principle to our benefit and in turn to the benefit of our customers."

The first winner for 2014 is John Summers, a Linehaul Driver who works out of Fort Wayne, IN.

John's Terminal Manager Randy Travelbee said what makes John stand out is his helpful approach. Randy wrote that "Whether (John) is getting ready to head out or returning from driving all night, he always has a kind word." John says "we all have each other's back," and he clearly lives that approach every day.

His desire to help others doesn't stop with fellow Holland employees, though. While on his route in October 2013, John watched as a vehicle veered off the highway, crashed through a guardrail and disappeared into some trees. After placing hazard illumination and calling the police, John went to the aid of the driver, who'd suffered a broken back.

A state trooper was quickly on the scene to direct the rescue, but the driver referred to John as her "guardian angel."
"Had it not been for John," she said, responders would have taken much longer to find and rescue her.
