One More for the Mantel

The awards continue to come in for Holland! Most recently, our valued customers at Parker Hannifin named Holland the winner of their 2013 LTL Carrier of the Year Award. In their own words, Parker Hannifin extended the honor "in recognition of Holland's commitment to operational excellence and continuous improvement."

Holland was selected after extensive evaluation by Parker Hannifin professionals across a variety of objective and subjective performance measures, such as number of claims and billing accuracy, along with the results of a customer service survey taken by representatives from all 250 of Parker Hannifin's North American shipping locations.

There to accept the award on behalf of Holland were Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Jim Ferguson, and Regional Corporate Account Executive, Keith Berlan.

"Receiving this award is a great honor. We are very thankful to Parker Hannifin for this recognition and continued partnership," said Jim Ferguson. "We are also thankful to the many Holland employees who maintain our excellent service levels."

This award is the eighth such service excellence award that Holland has won so far this year, in addition to three Quest for Quality Awards from Logistics Management magazine.

Holland currently operates 57 service centers throughout the U.S. and Canada. We employ over 6,600 individuals and maintain a fleet of over 5,400 tractors and 6,000 trailers. Not a small operation by any means, but our team members aim to treat each and every customer and shipment with the utmost attentiveness and personalized care.

Put simply, Holland is a big carrier with a close-knit family attitude. Just ask Denise Tobin, Purchasing Manager of IDI Fabrication. IDI Fabrication is a global leader in the engineering and production of high-quality parts from insulating plastic materials and film. They are also long-standing, valued customers of Holland.

Holland has assisted IDI Fabrication with their transportation needs since 1991. We have greatly valued our partnership. After so many years of on-time, damage-free service, IDI Fabrication decided to make Holland their sole provider of regional LTL transportation.

To both celebrate and solidify the decision, Holland Account Executive, Randy Gorden, invited Denise Tobin to take a tour of the Holland Indianapolis, IN service center. Along with Randy, Administrative Operations Manager, Sheilah Smith, guided Denise through the facilities, and explained how each element and individual worked together to provide the service that IDI enjoys.

"The 'insider' perspective from Sheilah Smith was so helpful," said Denise. "Not only in putting a face to a name, which is always beneficial, but in the step-by-step explanation of the whole shipping process and what it entails from start to finish."

"We love to tell people that we have very, very few problems with Holland as our carrier of choice. With that support team on your side, it's easy to understand why it works as smoothly as it does."

An Unconditional Commitment to Service

Holland currently boasts a damage-free ratio of 99.8%--a figure consistently well above the industry average. The remaining 0.2% of shipments require experienced and talented professionals such as Amy Fugiel (seen below). As an Overages, Shortages and Damages (OS&D) Clerk at the Charlotte, NC service center, Amy ensures that every question, concern or issue is investigated and corrected.

Amy has been in the transportation industry for 10 years. Her extensive background equips her with the skills necessary to routinely deliver stellar service to her customers.


"Amy is a top notch OS&D professional," said Alex Arnold, Charlotte Terminal Manager. "She always goes out of her way to make our customers enjoy their experience with Holland." 

Recently, that excellent service inspired some very kind and supportive words from our valued customers at Custom Glass Solutions (CGS) in Sandusky, OH. One of CGS's customers received a damaged shipment. CGS Customer Service professional, Diana Rogers, reached out to Amy.

According to Diana Rogers, Amy's customer service far surpassed her expectations. Amy facilitated the return of the crate to the customer quickly and without charge. Ms. Rogers sent an email expressing her gratitude and appreciation.

"This is just another example of why Holland has such a great reputation," wrote Diana. "Years ago our primary shipping clerk explained to me what to expect, historically, from each carrier. As time passed I've seen that she was correct. If you want less than average results, use a carrier from this list, if you want average results, use a carrier from that list. OR if you want results as close to perfect as possible, use Holland. I'm always relieved when a customer tells me to ship their order via Holland."

But while Diana sees amazing customer service, Amy sees her actions as natural. "I try to help customers as much as possible by putting myself in their situation. It makes me feel better knowing I was able to help," said Amy.

Tim Salyer

When considering the attributes, abilities, and characteristics that make for an ideal driver, Holland professional, Tim Salyer, provides a a perfect model. Experienced, skilled, safe, courteous, dedicated, customer-committed with an infectiously positive disposition to boot, Tim is one of the best professional drivers.

Tim has been driving with Holland for over 25 years, and currently works as a city driver out of the Dayton, OH service center. He has made quite a name for himself over the years--both internally, as a role model and friend at Team Holland in Dayton and also among his customers. Unsurprisingly, the qualities that make him an ideal employee, are the same that make him an ideal service provider to his customers.

Dayton Terminal Manager, Frank Blizzard, offered some insight into what makes Tim stand above the rest.

"Tim doesn't just take the extra step for the customer, he goes the extra mile," said Frank. "Tim makes all of his customers feel as if they were his only customer. He is courteous, attentive, and always willing to help out. Tim runs the Greenville, Ohio area. We recently hired a new account executive, Dave Hines, who was assigned to that location. After his very first day of making calls, Dave came to tell me that everywhere he went, he had customers give completely unsolicited compliments and praise about our driver, Tim Salyer. That's the quality of employee that Tim is."
